Abstract

1283971 Forging and stamping presses GKN ENG Ltd 6 Aug 1970 [8 May 1969] 23503/69 Headings B3H and B3Q [Also in Division B5] A press comprises a first platen 14 fixed to a base 11, guides 16 fixed to the base 11 and a head 17 and located outside the platen 14, a second platen 33 carried by a sub-frame 18 movable on the guides 16 so as to remain parallel to the platen 14, first drive means comprising a crank-shaft 23 mounted below the platen 14 and connected by connecting rods 25 to the sub-frame 18 for moving the latter, and second drive means carried by the sub-frame 18 for moving the second platen 33 relative to the sub-frame. The second drive means comprises one or more hydraulic cylinders 31 and pistons 32 (Fig. 3). The platen 33 is retractable upwardly by cylinders 38. The sub-frame can be held in its bottom dead-centre position by means of an hydraulically operated plunger 28 engageable in a recess 29 in one of two gear plates 22 to which the rods 25 are pivoted. The rods 25 are connected to the sub-frame 18 by clevises 26 which are adjustable by means of a motor 39 and gearing (41). The press is par. ticularly for moulding large plastics articles or for operating on blocks or sheets of metals or alloys.
