Abstract

1,169,008. Tilting furnaces. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 39996/66. Heading F4B. A tilting induction furnace has a pouring spout 7 and an inlet slot 21 spaced from the tilting axis 13. A launder 23 passing into the furnace through the slot 21 enables molten metal to be charged while metal is being poured. The slot 21 is arcuate with its centre of curvature on the axis of tilt and is of such a size that the furnace can be tilted to a position 7B to discharge half its contents without removing the launder 23 from the slot 21. With the launder removed, the furnace can be tilted to a position 7C to empty it completely.
