Abstract

1,117,575. Crucibles. WIENER SCHWACHSTROMWERKE G.m.b.H. 24 Feb., 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 8891/67. Heading F4B. An induction heated crucible 2 is tilted about an axis 4 near the lip 3 for pouring metal, and is tiltable about a second axis 17 near the outer end of a slag gutter 11 to pour off slag. The axes 4, 17 are parallel, and locking members 21 22 are linked together and operated to prevent the pivots lifting out of the bearing about which the crucible is tilted. A slag bucket 14 is pivoted to the casing of the crucible so that slag is not spilt when metal is poured. To pour metal the crucible 2 and casing are tilted, but to pour slag the crucible 2 is tilted relative to the casing. Covers 6, 9 for the crucible and slag gutter, are arranged to be swung away when the slag is poured. In a modification, (Fig. 3, not shown) the slag bucket is pivoted to the furnace support structure, and a working platform extending over the slag bucket is swung away before the metal is poured.
