Abstract

1,071,793. Tilting induction furnaces; charging and discharging. E. BUHRER. Aug. 28, 1964 [Sept. 2, 1963; June 3, 1964], No. 35438/64. Heading F4B. A tiltable induction furnace in which the axis of tilting is aligned with or across a charging opening so that there is substantially no movement of the latter during tilting, comprises the furnace 4 with heating coil 26 pivotally mounted in side bearings 8 on stands 9, hydraulic tilting cylinders 10 on opposite sides articulated to the furnace at 12, an opening 5 in the fixed cover 6 receiving molten iron 3 from a launder 2 connected to a continuous cupola, a discharge spout 20, and a slagging opening 21 closable by a sliding door 22. A ladle 14 is disposed on a cradle 13 pivotally mounted at 15 on the furnace and pivotally connected by a crank 18 and arm 17 to another arm 16 fixed to the support 9 so that as the furnace tilts the cradle 13 remains horizontal. A slag pot 23 is mounted on a bracket 25, the furnace being reversably tilted for slagging, and the slag opening 21 is used for feeding the metal with finishings.
