Abstract

1,168,749. Cylinder locks. C. ROSSETTI. 26 June, 1968 [7 July, 1967], No. 30486/68. Heading E2A. The rotatable cylinder or barrel 11 of a cylinder lock is secured against axial movement within bore 12 of a lock casing 13 by a resilient split ring 14 which is caused to engage in opposed grooves in both the barrel 11 and the lock casing, whereby it provides the sole means for preventing axial movement of the barrel in both directions. Assembly is effected by providing a conical surface on one of the members 11, 13 against which the ring 14 is urged axially by its engagement in the groove in the other member whereby the ring is compressed (in the case of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2) or expanded (Fig. 8, not shown) from its unstressed condition to cause it to jump into the other groove. The arrangement is said to result not only in shortening the overall length of the lock but also in the prevention of unauthorised dismantling.
