1311963 Lock mechanisms PEBRA GmbH PAUL BRAUN 11 March 1970 [14 March 1969 (2)] 11748/70 Heading E2A A cylinder lock mechanism for an automobile lock, includes a lock body, a bore within the lock body accommodating a barrel 6, radial tumblers 14, a passage for a key within the barrel, a head 5 at a forward end of the barrel bearing against an annular shoulder in the lock body, a cap 4 covering the head of the barrel, means 11 or 31 closing a rear end of the passage within the barrel, and a sealing ring 8 or 21 in engagement with the cap and with an annular wall of an annular recess 7 in the lock body or a recess 20 of an outer casing 19 surrounding the lock body. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the recess 7 is a rectangular peripheral section the ring 8 being of V shaped cross section with one limb bearing against the cap and the other against the body and the ring being retained by an annular retainer 9 which is snapped over a rim 3 of the body. A drainage bore 10 is provided in the body behind the ring, the bore connecting the passage to the outside of the body. A nose 2 surrounds the outer end part of the body behind the rim 3 and the drainage bore 10 also passes through the nose. The means for closing the rear end portion of the passage is a plug which is pressed into place. In a modification the sealing ring instead of being of V shape is substantially L shaped in cross section with its shorter limb pressed into the annular gap and the longer limb covering part of the end face of the body. In an alternative construction Fig. 6 in which the body with the barrel &c is axially movable in a said casing 19, the sealing ring 21 is again of L shaped cross section and is held in place by a plurality of claws 22 instead of by a retaining ring. The head of the barrel contains recesses 23 in which are disposed a sealing member 24 for the key passage this having two lips 26, 27 which abut. The means 21 closing the rear end of the key passage is pressed in plug 31 which has a lateral projection 33 having a groove 34 which when the plug is pushed home registers with a groove 35 in the barrel so that a spring ring 36 can be disposed in the grooves to retain the plug in position. A ball catch holds the barrel in the locking position.
