Abstract

1,168,550. Caps for bottles. E. LANGECKER. 20 Jan., 1967 [9 Feb., 1966; 9 Jan., 1967], No. 3160/67. Heading B8T. A safety closure consists of a plastics cap comprising an upper strengthened portion 1 and an integral skirt 2. An internal bead 3 overlies a flange 11 of a bottle neck 12 to which the cap may be fitted, and a bead 4 engages an annular groove 14. A weakening groove 6 and tongue 5 enable the skirt 2 to be torn between ribs 7 into a further line of weakening 8, so that the skirt 2 completely separates from the upper cap part 1. The part 1 has a gripping member 10. In a modified form of cap, a cylindrical extension (16), Figs. 6-8 (not shown) of the cap skirt overlies the neck flange (13) and has a slot (20) on one side of a gripping flap (18) that is connected to a horizontal extension (19) of the weakening groove (6) allowing the skirt (2) of the cap to be torn off as before.
