Abstract

1,167,724. Knitting. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. 17 Nov., 1966 [23 Nov., 1965], No. 49807/65. Headings D1C and D1K. A straight bar knitting machine for cabling has fewer transfer points than the number of wales over which the cable extends, and the cabling operation is carried out over a number of transfers. Two adjacent needles on one side of the wale group are transfer and doubled onto one needle on the other side, while two adjacent loops from that other side are transposed to the first side. In the embodiment shown two adjacent transfer points 1, 2 moving in unison over a maximum of 3 needle spaces effect a cable on 6 wales. Loops 2L, 3L originally on the second and third. Needles are doubled-operation S2- and moved in two operations S4, S8 to needle 5. Loops L4 and 5 are doubled on needle 2 and loop L6 is transferred to needle 3. The embodiments of Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) describe five wale cabling carried out by one point moving a maximum of two, three needle spaces respectively. Figs. 2, 5 (not shown) disclose two points moving together and jointly over a maximum of two, three spaces respectively. In the method of Figure 6 (not shown) 3 points arranged over four needle spaces move a maximum of 2 spaces.
