Abstract

1,154,945. Scarfing burners. AIR REDUCTION CO. Inc. 7 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 26310/67. Heading F4T. A scarfing burner 10 has a front face 18 which includes an upper face portion 20 with an under-cut shoulder 22, preheat orifices 26, 28 to which fuel gas is supplied and a channel 44 into which open elongated oxygen jet orifices 48 supplied from a header passage 50 and supply passages 54, the orifices 48 being elongated in the direction of the row of orifices. Inserts 60, 62 located in the channel 44 interfere with the oxygen streams and cause turbulence and mixing. The end of each insert is tapered for a short length to compress and uniformly distribute the flow of oxygen across the slot.
