Abstract

1414043 Gas burner MIDLAND-ROSS CORP 9 March 1973 [20 April 1972] 11423/73 Heading F4T A burner has a combustion chamber 22 of circular internal cross-section and one or more passages 38 each with a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to a tangent to the internal wall of chamber 22, the or each passage 38 having a first portion 44 opening into chamber 22 and a second portion 42 of larger cross-section than portion 44 extending upstream therefrom and coaxial therewith, the upstream end of portion 42 having a port for connection to a source of air and a port for connection to a source of fuel gas. Fuel gas is injected into portions 42 via speeds (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), on the downstream ends of tubes 48, and air, which may be heated, is supplied via pipes 58, 56. Passages 38 are directed at 2 to 4 degrees to the tangent to chamber 22 to direct the fuel/air mixture away from the wall thereof to promote mixing and stability, further mixing being achieved by the presence of a shoulder 34 between a refractory member defining chamber 22 and a further refractory member 30. The portions 42 are twice as long and twice the diameter of portions 44, the outlet aperture (52) of each speed (50) having a diameter <SP>1</SP>/ 5 to <SP>1</SP>/ 10 the distance of that aperture from the upstream end of the corresponding portion 44.
