Abstract

1,145,557. Hydraulic accumulators. K. SUGIMURA and N. SUGIMURA. Nov. 8, 1966 [Dec.28, 1965], No.49868/66. Heading F1P. A hydraulic accumulator comprises a gas-filled bladder 2, Fig. 1, lodged in a rigid tank 1 containing a poppet valve-member 7 adjacent a port 5 through which liquid flows to or from an associated hydraulic system (not shown) according to energy variations therein, an annular ridge 11 being formed on the wall of the bladder internally thereof to prevent injury thereto caused by said wall buckling when it yields to the pressure of the said liquid. The ridge 11 is circumjacent a portion of the wall of the bladder that is thicker than the remainder of the wall to afford it adequate strength when said portion abuts the head of the valvemember 7 and depresses it against the action of a compression-spring 10 so as to close the port 5, the effect of the ridge 11 being to reduce the angle through which the wall is bent at the perimeter of said portion when the bladder buckles. In a second embodiment, Fig.2 (not shown), the head of the valve-member is embedded in the wall of the bladder and the ridge 11 is formed substantially circumjacent to the periphery of the head. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3, the valve-member is inverted and the head thereof is embedded in the wall of the bladder. The stem 8 of the valvemember is slidingly lodged in a tube 9 attached to an end cover 15 for the tank 1, the free end of the stem being connected to a tension spring 10. In a fourth embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the head of the valve-member is again embedded in the wall of the bladder, but the stem 8 and parts associated therewith are dispensed with.
