Abstract

1,128,432. Radial flow gas turbines. WALLACE - MURRAY CORP. Jan. 30, 1967 [April 8, 1966], No. 12999/68. Divided out of 1,128,431. Headings F1G and F1T. An exhaust gas driven turbine assembly for driving the compressor of an internal combustion engine turbocharger comprises a housing having two inlet apertures, a turbine rotor mounted for rotation within the housing, and a single volute passage formed in the housing extending adjacent the periphery of the turbine rotor. A first passage in the housing extends between one inlet aperture and the volute passage, and a second passage extends between the other inlet aperture and the volute passage. A tongue or projection extends into the region where the first and second passages connect with the volute passage so as to prevent entry of exhaust gases to the turbine rotor in that region. Thus the exhaust gases introduced separately into each inlet aperture are caused to flow into the turbine rotor along the length of the volute at a substantially constant static pressure. The invention is described with reference to the embodiment disclosed in Specification 1,128, 431.
