Abstract

1,173,566. Gas turbine plant. W. HARTLEY. Aug.16, 1967 [Aug. 10, 1966], No.35865/66. Heading F1G. The invention relates to a gas turbine engine which comprises a centrifugal type air compressor G, a plurality of combustion spaces M, and a radial inward flow turbine K, these parts being formed as a single rotary assembly and being enclosed within a casing or shroud so that the working fluid duct is completely enclosed except for air intake at the compressor inlet and gas discharge at the turbine outlet. A fixed stator casing O is disposed around the rotor assembly, the space therebetween being excavated. A starting device L comprising a bladed rotor rotatably mounted on bearings C adjacent the compressor inlet is provided, the rotor being driven off starting. The compressor and turbine rotor assembly is mounted in bearings B, fuel supply and ignition devices being provided in duct D. The space N between the rotor assembly and the stator casing O is excavated by means of a suction pump connected to the point P. Leakage preventing seals are provided at Q. Four combustion spaces M are provided in the embodiment but any number may be provided.
