Abstract
1,128,431. Turbine casings. WALLACE - MURRAY CORP. Jan. 30, 1967 [April 8, 1966], No. 4425/67. Headings F1G and F1T. The invention relates to the turbine casing of an exhaust gas turbocharger assembly. The turbine rotor 17a shown in Fig. 1 is located within a casing 10 which comprises an inlet flange 24 and an exhaust outlet 23. The casing is formed with two inlet ducts 31, 41 which extend from two inlets 26, 27 in the flange 24, the two inlets ducts being of convergent form and being separated by a partition 40 which terminates at 40a, Fig. 3. Exhaust gases from two manifolds are supplied to the ducts 31, 41, the gases discharging from the ducts into a common zone 32 which itself extends into a volute 33 which is open at its radially inner side 34 for gas flow into the turbine rotor 17a. The radially inner walls of the inlet ducts 31, 41 extend as a common wall 50 into the common zone 32 adjacent the periphery of the turbine rotor 17 and this ensures that the gas pressure around the whole periphery of the turbine rotor is substantially uniform.
