Abstract

1,127,581. Coated fabrics. BONDINA Ltd. 15 Dec., 1966 [4 Jan., 1966; 23 Aug., 1966], Nos. 341/66 and 37743/66. Heading B2E. A protective material is formed from a composite of a woven or knitted fabric and a non-woven fabric, impregnated with a binder and having a layer of charcoal bonded to one side of the material by a binder composition comprising an acrylate resin. The layer of charcoal may be bonded to the woven or knitted side of the material. The binder composition may comprise the acrylate as the sole binder material, or it may comprise an acrylate resin with a lesser proportion of natural rubber containing for example at least 50% by weight of the acrylate resin. Ammoniated casein or a water-soluble cellulose ether may be present in the binder as stabilisers. The charcoal may comprise about 5 % of the binder composition. The impregnant may be a polychloroprene or an acrylate resin cured in situ. The acrylate composition may include chlorinated polymers and antimony oxide to provide flame resistance. The impregnant may also be a fluonacarbon resin. The charcoal used may be previously washed with hot dilute acid. The charcoal and binder compositions may be sprayed on together as an aqueous dispersion. The woven and unwoven layers may be attached by needling.
