Abstract

1,222,545. Fire-proofing. CARL FREUDENBERG. 8 May, 1968 [13 May, 1967; 5 Aug., 1967], No. 21822/68. Headings D1L and D1P. Fabric of synthetic thermoplastic material is impregnated with a curable thermoplastic resin as binding agent and polyvinylidine chloride and antimony oxide as fire-proofing agents. The fire-proofing agents are applied as an aqueous dispersion. They may be applied after the curable binding agent (with intermediate curing) or together therewith (and subsequent curing). The fabric may be of nylon or polyester; and may be knitted, woven, or non-woven. The binding agent may be a polyacrylate, and 8-70%(based on fabric plus binding agent) may be employed. The polyvinylidine chloride may be a copolymer with a small amount of acrylate, and 5-25% (based on fabric) may be employed. 4 parts of didecyl phthalate per 3 parts of polyvinylidine chloride may be employed as plasticiser. As shown, a fleece 11 containing cured binder passes in succession (a) through the nip of a padder comprising rolls 1 and 2, roll 2 being felt covered and dipping into a fire-proofing dispersion, (b) under pressure around heated rolls 5-7 at 140‹C., rolls 5-7 rotating more rapidly than rolls 1 and 2 so as to stretch the fleece, (c) through a padder comprising rolls 9 and 10, roll 10 being felt covered and dipping into water, and (d) through a tenter 12 at 140‹C.
