The rake-wheels of a haymaking machine are rimless and each comprise spokes 60 radiating from a hub, the outer ends of the spokes carrying peripheral tined segments 85, 86 pivotally mounted for movement between positions substantially concentric to the hubs and positions outwardly pivoted therefrom. The machine is similar to that described in Specification 1,126,770 and comprises three rake-wheels 30 mounted on a common shaft 31 that is carried by a tractor so that it extends horizontally but oblique to the direction of travel of the tractor, the central rakewheel being concentric with the shaft and the outer ones being carried by outriggers 39, 54 pivoted on the shaft and suspended by springs 92 from a cross-bar 24 forming part of the frame carrying the shaft 31. Each spoke terminates outwardly in a forked bearing 61 within which are pivotally mounted two mounting blocks 70, 71 for the segments, each segment consisting of a pile of wires 87 of different lengths, the inner end of the pile being bonded to a mounting block and the outer end of each wire formed with a loop 89 terminating in a tine 90. Clips 91 hold the wires together in the manner of a leaf-spring. Each segment is prevented from inward movement further than a circumferential position by a step 64 on the forked bearing 61, and abutments 77, 78 on the respective mounting blocks restrain the segments from excessive outward movement. As each wheel rotates, the segments fall, under gravity, into circumferentially extending positions in the upper part of their travel, but fall outwardly into groundengagement in the lower part, thereby increasing the raking width of the machine. As shown in Fig. 2, six spokes are employed and each segment extends over 60 degrees, but in a modification (Fig. 18, not shown) only three spokes are used so that the wheel-circumference is discontinuous. In a further modification (Fig. 14, not shown) the tines are separate from the segments, which comprise rigid, pivoted, arcuate bars.
