Abstract

1,056,959. Automatic firearms. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Nov. 26, 1965 [Dec. 19 1964], No. 50364/65. Heading F3C. An automatic firearm comprises a housing divided in a vertical longitudinal central plane into two halves 1, 1<SP>1</SP> (not shown), the forward ends of the halves of the housing serving to receive the barrel 3 of the firearm such that it is exchangeable, the halves being held together by clamping means. The clamping means may consist of a sleeve 4 heat shrunk over the halves. The halves are further held together, adjacent the breech block by tension rods 9 also shrunk into place. The sleeve 4 is provided with ducts 6 and bores 7 for the breechblock of the firearm to be gas-operated. At the rear end of the housing is located a locking member 11 which engages the ends of the halves and also serves to house a buffer device. The sleeve 4 and locking member 11 also support a closing spring housing 8. The halves 1, 1<SP>1</SP> are semicylindrical and are produced by drop-forging.
