Abstract

112,422. Spray Primer Co., (Assignees of Kilgors, F. O.). Dec. 20, 1916, [Convention date]. Starting.-In a starting-device in which a pump supplies fuel to the engine, a valve mounted on the piston-rod of the pump closes the pump outlet, and preferably also the inlet, at the end of the suction stroke of the piston. In the form shown, the pump a is mounted on the dash-board 42 and operated by pressing the head 40 of the piston-rod 16, which is returned by a spring 38. A valve 20 mounted on the piston-rod closes a fuel inlet 21 and an outlet 22 at the end of the suction stroke. The inlet and outlet are provided with check valves and are formed in a partition c between the pump chamber 10 and the valve chamber 12, the two chambers being in communication through gaps in the partition. The inlet is connected to the fuel pipe between the fuel tank and the carburettor, and the outlet leads preferably to the induction manifold.
