Abstract

1,115,167. Multi-platen presses. G. SIEMPELKAMP & CO. 12 Sept., 1966 [7 Oct., 1965], No. 40604/66. Heading B5F. In a multi-platen press comprising a series of platens 4 connected by locating elements 6 to a control lever 5 which is pivoted to a fixed beam 2 and to an actuating rod 5A itself pivoted to a moving beam 1, the control lever 5 is fitted with a force equalizing device. In one example (Fig. 1, not shown), this device comprises a series of cylinder and piston units (7) connected individually to the various locating elements 6. The cylinders are pivotally mounted on the lever 5 and have their lower compartments filled with hydraulic fluid and connected together and to an air-cushion device (8) to give resilience. In Fig. 2, the force equalizing device comprises a cable 10 passing over two sets of rollers, one set 9 being mounted on the lever 5 and the other set 11 on the head ends of the elements 6. The tension in the cable 10 is adjustable by screws 12. The rollers 9 and/or 11 may be braked by brake pads 14b carried by brackets 14a on a braking bar 14. This bar may be operated by compressed air and hydraulic pressure or by springs. The elements 6 may be cables and include turn-buckles 13.
