920,494. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 16, 1959 [July 29, 1958], No. 24309/58. Class 103 (1). A disc brake of the kind wherein pads of friction material are applied to a restricted area of the disc 1 comprises friction pads 8a which are applied to the disc as a result of pivotal movement of the levers 6 about their mountings on screws 27. The movement of the levers 6 towards the disc is caused by the effect of balls 16 in ramps on a member 15 which is rotated to apply the brake by the movement of a fluid-pressure operated piston 10b in a cylinder 10a, pressure being applied to the lever 6 on the far side of the disc through the screwed rod 11 to the end of which is screwed a thrust cap 14. Movement of the levers 6 in a direction to move the friction pads away from the disc is produced by spring wire members 26 located between pins 31 on the one hand and the boss for screws 27 on the other.
