Abstract

1,113,127. Knitting. GEBR. SCHELLER TEXTILMASCHINEN FABRIK G.m.b.H. 27 July, 1965 [28 July, 1964], No. 32021/65. Headings D1C and.DlK. A plain fabric with a ribbed edge is knitted on a straight bar machine and to change from rib to plain knitting all the loops are arranged on the frame needles whereafter transfer points perform a number of successive narrowing operations to form double stitches on spaced needles. Thus the plain fabric is no wider than the rib fabric. The point bars 22, 22a transfer loops from a group of needles one space inwards to form double stitches, then are shogged several needle spaces so that they may engage a different number of needles at the following narrowing operation. The operation is repeated until the required number of double stitches has been formed. The bars may commence the cycle at each end (or the centre) of the bed and after, each transfer are shogged inwards (or outwards) and successively take an increasing (or decreasing) number of loops. The main cam shaft is provided with a cam 54, engaged by an axially movable follower 51, operative to rack the transfer bars single or multiple spacings during the doubling operations.
