Abstract

1,106,725. Centre punches. D. J. EVEREST. 7 April, 1966, No. 15699/66. Heading B4X. A device for marking out workpieces comprises a base and a centre punch assembly supported on the base. The base carrying scales each spaced with respect to a pair of imaginary intersecting co-ordinates passing through the centre of the centre punch and the centre punch being stationary relatively to at least one of the scales on the base. A centre punch 11 is received in a hole in an L-shaped base 1 provided with edges 2, 3 having scales thereon, there being provided a cursor 6 having a locating edge 9, the cursor being slidably guided on one arm of the base by a screw 7 in a slot running parallel to the edge 3 and clamped in desired position by a nut 8. The centre punch, Fig. 3, comprises a base bush 10 which forms a guide for a pointed punch 12, an upper body 11 screwed on to the base 10 holding the punch in position. A return spring 14 is provided. In a modification. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the L-shaped base comprises two detachable parts. In use the locating edge 9 of the cursor is set to the desired scale measurement and the locating edge is then located against the edge of the sheet to be punched and moved along until the desired measurement on the second scale is in line with the edge of the sheet which is at right angles to the locating edge. In a further modification, Figs. 8-10 (not shown), the centre punch assembly (44) is held stationary on a base member (40) which is slidably adjustable on a base member (41) extending at right angles thereto. A member (42) which carries a location stop (43) is slidably adjustable on the base member 41. In use, the device is placed on a sheet to be punched with adjacent edges of the sheet in contact with the datum face (47) of the base member (41) and the end stop (43).
