Abstract
1,098,954. Adjustable beds. J. BUNYAN. Sept. 30, 1966 [July 23, 1965], No. 31460/65. Heading A4J. In a mattress frame (4), which is independently supported, near each corner, for vertical adjustment relatively to bed legs 2, the adjustment motion is aided by a spring counter-balancing mechanism. When the bed is unoccupied constant force spring drums 7 act on metal strips 6 to lift bearers 3, so that the edges 3a of each of four holes 11 enter recesses 9a in bolts 9 to prevent their withdrawal. In use, the weight of the occupant frees the bolts 9 which may then be individually or collectively withdrawn by Bowden cables 10 to allow any tilt or vertical adjustment of the frame (4) to be made. The bearers 3 are connected by T-shaped shafts 4a to the flanges 4b of the frame (4).
