Abstract

1,096,614. Steam turbines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 22, 1965 [May 6, 1964], No.18851/64. Heading F1T. A steam turbine 2 receives steam from a boiler 6 via a control valve 8 operated by a hydraulic actuator 10 receiving pressurized water from the boiler feed pump 16. The use of water in the actuator instead of oil prevents any fire hazard. The pump 16 may deliver to the actuator via an auxiliary pump or may additionally supply water to parts of the turbine. An independent pump may be used to supply boiler feed water to the actuator. The water may be cooled before delivery to the actuator. A valve 18 controls the water pressure applied to the actuator and thereby the operation of the valve 8. The turbine and actuator discharge to a condenser 24 via pipes 22 and 28 respectively.
