Abstract

1,058,691. Steam turbine plant. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 6, 1964 [Sept.12, 1963], No.36027/63. Heading FIT. A turbine power plant includes a higher pressure main turbine supplying a lower pressure main turbine through a reheater, an auxiliary turbine receiving working fluid from the higher pressure main turbine and driving a liquid feed pump, and an automatically controlled flow regulating valve in the conduit between the main turbines arranged to throttle the working fluid flow at low power outputs from the main turbines so as to ensure a sufficient supply pressure of working fluid to the auxiliary turbine. A superheated steam generator 5 supplies high and low pressure main turbines 1H, 1L respectively through an admission control valve 11 interstage reheater 7 and regulating valve 13. An auxiliary turbine 31 driving a feedwater pump 33 receives steam from H. P. turbine 1H through a regulating valve 37 and exhausts to feedwater heater 23. Feedwater heaters 19, 23, 27, 35 also receive bleed steam from the turbines. Over the upper range of main turbine load 3, valve 37 controls auxiliary turbine 31 output in response to feed pump delivery pressure, feed flow, or boiler drum water level. When the main load drops such that turbine 31 tends to receive insufficient steam, unit 39 resets interstage valve 13 so as to throttle the main steam flow and cause a corresponding increase in the inlet pressure at turbine 31. Unit 39 may be responsive to a feed pressure sensor 41, feed flow, boiler conditions, H. P. turbine exhaust pressure, or main turbine output. A small electrically driven stand-by feed pump may supplement or supplant pump 33 at the lowest main loads.
