Abstract

1,094,944. Thermal switches. STEVENS MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Sept. 29, 1966, No. 43535/66. Heading H2B. A ceiling-mounted fire detector comprises an annular insulating housing 10 closed at its lower end by a bi-metal disc 22 and sealed to dust by a brass heat collector 23 comprising an annular side wall 23A secured by crimping around the housing 10 and by adhesive 24, an integral end wall 27, and an annular convoluted extension 29 either integral with the wall 27 or soldered thereto at 31. Disc 22 engages a rod 19 carrying a movable contact 13 normally held out of engagement with fixed contacts 11, 12. On excessive ambient temperature, disc 22 snaps over centre so that contact 13 is biased by a bowed spring 20 to bridge contacts 11, 12 and thus close a circuit between terminals 17, 18 for signalling an alarm or operating a sprinkler.
