Abstract

1,087,611. Agitating coal in hoppers. SENIOR ECONOMISERS Ltd. Aug. 19,1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 21139/63. Heading B8A. Gravity-fed coal is agitated by a reciprocating piston g which introduces agitating air at i. Thus piston g works within casing a in bearings d and t mounted therein, and is operated by compressed air introduced at y so that the piston head h reciprocates within the hopper and at the same time discharges air at i when the piston is within the hopper. Additionally the piston is given a rotary movement. This is effected by sleeve o which is equipped with pins r mounted therein by means of bearings q and engaging slots 8 formed spirally in the part k of piston g. The sleeve o co-operates with spring m. Operation.-As the piston moves leftwards under the pressure of air introduced at y, the sleeve o remains free but as the piston moves further leftwards the spring m tightens its grip upon sleeve o so that the sleeve becomes fixed and the piston is compelled to rotate as it goes further forward. In this way the air jet at i is directed into the coal at different angles and facilitates the flow thereof.
