Abstract

In a method for making semi-refractory insulating blocks by moulding and baking fireclay in admixture with water and organic filler material, CaCO3 is added to give the fireclay raw material a CaCO3 content of 10-30% by weight. The CaCO3 may be added in the form of calcareous brick clay or crushed limestone. The maximum temperature used during the baking process should preferably be 100 DEG to 300 DEG C. below the maximum working temperature of the blocks.
