Abstract

Liquid detergent composition comprising (a) a mixture of one or more water soluble soaps of fatty acids having 10 to 16 carbon atoms, and one or more organic synthetic detergents of the group consisting of: (1) tertiary amine oxides having the formula R1R2R3N-->O wherein R1 is an alkyl, polyethoxyalkyl, monohydroxyalkyl, or alkoxymonohydroxypropyl group wherein the alkyl or alkoxy group has 10 to 18 carbon atoms and R2 and R3, which may be similar or different are each an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or together form a heterocyclic group (2) compounds of formula R4(C2H4O)#c wherein R4 is an alkoxy group having 10 to 18 carbon atoms or is an alkyl phenoxy group wherein the alkyl group contains 6 to 12 carbon atoms and #c is an integer from 4 to 30; (3) zwitterionic detergent compounds having the general formula <FORM:1081556/C4-C5/1> wherein R5 is an aliphatic chain having 10 to 20 carbon atoms, R6 and R7 (which may be similar or different) are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl, R8 is an alkylene chain of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, X is either -SO3 or -COO and Y is hydrogen or a hydroxyl group; (4) sulphoxides of formula R9R10S-->O wherein R9 is an alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxy-alkyl group having 10 to 18 carbon atoms and R10 is a methyl or ethyl group; the total amount of the fatty acids of said soap(s) and of said organic synthetic detergent(s) being from 16% to 60%, by weight of the composition, and the ratio by weight of the said fatty acids to said organic detergent being from 1.5: 1 to 4: 1, (b) a proportion of one or more organic sequestering agent salts corresponding to from 4 to 8% by weight of the acid form thereof, (c) water. Organic sequestering agent salts specified include nitrilotriacetates, amino polycarboxylates salts of E.D.T.A. and ethane-1-hydroxy -1,1-diphosphonic acids. Other ingredients may include hydrotropes such as salts of xylene and toluene sulphonic acids, aliphatic alcohols having 1-4 carbon atoms, corrosion inhibitors, CMC1 perfumes, dyes, foam improvers and optical brighteners. The pH of the solution is between 8 and 12.
