[Also in Division F2] A fastener 10, Fig. 1 (comprising a body 20 containing an extensible sleeve 25, Fig. 4, a compression sleeve 23, a segmented sleeve 33, a swaging sleeve 45 and a locking sleeve 50) is first pushed on to the shank of a stud or bolt 13 so that the segments of sleeve 33 fit into a groove 16 and abut against a shoulder 17 on the shank. Then, for securement, fluid - pressure from a cartridge or other source, introduced to the body 20 at a port 22, forces the sleeves 45, 50 apart, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the former passes over the sleeve 25, flattening and extending it to a cylindrical form, and the latter forces the segments 33 against the shank shoulder 17 and is itself expanded so that an edge of its groove 53 is locked behind a shoulder 62 in the body 20. The combination of sleeves 25, 23 and 33 is thus extended in length, the bolt 13 is placed in tension and bodies 14, 15 to be held together are drawn against the body 20 to close a gap 60. The extensible sleeve 25 is divided by saw cuts 29 between its ends 30, 31 and the divided portions 28, Fig. 4, are arched away from the axis before being swaged flat by the sleeve 45. A circlip 37 secures the four segments of the sleeve 33 while a disc 42 with a flanged aperture retains the sleeves before setting the fastener. The fastener parts may be of stainless steel.
