Abstract

1,256,855. Stud and socket fastenings. DZUS FASTENER CO. Inc. 24 June, 1970 [15 Aug., 1969], No. 30690/70. Heading E2B. In a stud and socket fastening a helical cam slot is provided either in part of the stud or in part of the housing. In an embodiment the stud 10, Figs. 1 and 3, has a helical cam slot 11 and has a screw-threaded shank 14 by which it is mounted into an engine block, 51 for example, and the socket has a sleeve 20 with a spring 30 and a housing 40 mounted therein. The sleeve is flanged at each end thereof so as to retain the spring and housing therein and the housing 40 is provided with a pin 44 which is engageable with the cam slot 11 of the stud 10. As shown in Fig. 3 a member 50 and the block 51 are fastened together by means of the stud and socket fastening. In a modification a grommet 60, Fig. 7, is provided so as to attach the socket to the member 50 prior to the latter being fastened to the block 51.
