Abstract

647,180. Stud - and - socket fasteners. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Aug. 5, 1948, No. 20727. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1947. [Class 44] A sheet metal snap fastener stud comprises a tubular barrel split longitudinally to provide a gap and having a flanged base at one end, the barrel part being formed with outwardly bulged portions and a tapered nose at its free end. In the form of Fig. 5. edge portions 18 of the barrel 10 are outwardly bulged at the junction of the cylindrical shank 16 and the nose 17. This provides an enlargement for resiliently compressing the sides of the barrel when forced through an aperture of predetermined size. The flanged base 14 may be enclosed in a disc-like cap. In the form of Fig. 6 the bulged portions 20 are spaced from the edges of the gap and lie at opposite ends of a diameter through the shank 16.
