Abstract

1,071,781. Thermal storage space heaters. ALEXANDER DUNN Ltd. Nov. 14, 1963 [Aug. 15, 1962], No. 31232/62. Heading F4U. In a thermal storage air heater a fan directs air through a passage extending around or through an electrically heated thermal storage mass, mixes the heated air re-entering the fan housing with cool incoming air, recirculates heated air through the passage and emits heated mixed air. The air from entry filter 24 passes through outside passage (23) into the fan housing and then through inside passage 22 and horizontal conduits (20) in the mass perpendicular to the heating elements and returns through inside passage 21 to the fan housing. Mixed air is emitted from the outlet 17 which has an auxiliary electric heater 18, and part is recirculated. The amount of air passing through the mass and thus the temperature of the emitted air is controlled by damper 25 which is automatically adjusted by thermostats 26A activating control means 27. Alternatively the damper 25 may be manually adjusted or dependent on the speed of the fan. The heating elements are controlled by thermostats 19A, and safety thermostat 26 is provided. In another embodiment the inlet is provided with damper blades at the heater inlet or outlet which control the pressure and temperature of the emitted air. The control means of this damper may be temperature dependent.
