Abstract

1,198,604. Storage heaters. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. 30 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5118/69. Heading F4U. A base unit for a storage heater comprises a cover 1, a fan 10 for supplying cold air through an aperture 2 in the cover to a conduit in the storage core (not shown) and a second fan 15 which is capable of receiving both cold air and heated air from said conduit. A deflector 12 guides part of the air from fan 10 through aperture 2 while the remainder is supplied through a passage 20 to fan 15. Heated air passes through an aperture 3 in the cover and through an apertured plate 14 to fan 15. The latter may be operated alone, drawing cold air through fan 10, and when fan 10 is additionally energized the turbulence it produces results in less flow through the relatively narrow passage 20 and increased flow through the storage core. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) fan 15 has an independent cold air inlet and all of the air from fan 10 passes through the storage core. Fan 15 may be operated continuously while fan 10 is operated intermittently and at varying speeds under the control of a thermostat responsive to the air temperature at the outlet of fan 15. The speed of fan 10 is limited, either as a function of the speed of fan 15 or by a temperature senser in the cold air inlet of fan 15, to prevent it from delivering a greater quantity of air than the latter.
