Abstract
1,069,072. Preventing unauthorized use of motor vehicles. D. S. BURLEIGH. Feb. 13, 1964 [Feb. 15, 1963; March 15, 1963; April 16, 1963], Nos. 6215/63, 10336/63 and 14909/63. Heading B7J. [Also in Divisions E2 and F1] Electrical theft-prevention apparatus for a motor vehicle includes a relay-operated circuitbreaker 1 for actuating means for immobilizing the vehicle and respective automatic and manually-actuated switches 4, 6 in circuit with the relay, the automatic switch opening whenever the driver leaves the driving position so as to require subsequent closure of the manually actuated switch to render the immobilizing means ineffective. The immobilizing means comprises a solenoid valve (see Specification 1,069,073) disposed in a fuel or induction pipe to the vehicle engine and held open by current from a battery 5 when the circuit-breaker 1 is closed. The automatic switch 4 is opened by spring-loading when the weight of the driver is removed from the driving seat or foot-board to de-energize the relay and obstruct the fuel or induction pipe. The manually actuated switch 6, which is of push-button or wiper contact type closed only at the instant of actuation and may be concealed or disguised, must then be closed by the driver to energize the relay so that the circuit to the automatic switch 4 is re-established through contacts incorporated in the circuit-breaker 1. A switch 3 incorporated in the engine ignition switch is arranged in series with the automatic switch 4. A key (Fig. 2, not shown) for operating the manually actuated switch 6 or the ignition switch includes a spring-loaded plunger which ejects the key when the key is released or when the switch returns to its initial position under spring-loading. Alternatively, the key may be ejected by a spring-loaded rod within the switch barrel.
