Description
VEHICLE ANTI THEFT DEVICE
This invention relates to a vehicle anti theft device first described in application for Patent dated 23rd October 1991 and given No 9122491.5 This new application is in respect of further research and development resulting in a new system which automatically arms itself whenever the ignition is switched off.
Tnere are severa1 types of vehicle alarm systems in everyday use bused audible alarm systems.
This is not an alarm syster, but can be used as part or an alarm system The invention prevents the vehicle being driven by an unauthorised person.
There is an urgent need for a sisllpie device which will imiorse the eng of any type of motor vehicle!safely and simp3y.
There is provided an electro magnetic solenoid fuel shut off valve situated in a convenient position in the fuel line which will stop the flow of fuel to the engine.
The unique design of the wiring circuits, incorporating an electric relay, causes an automatic arming of the system when the vehicle ignition is switched off. This first stage will cut off the power supply to the coil, electronic brain, starter solenoid, electric fuel pump, electronic injection systems and Twoc Stop valve.
An energising button (push switch) must be pressed to close the contacts in the electric relay before power is restored and the engine can start.
The key operated barrel switch in a concealed position within the vehicle, the location of which will be known only to the owner, provides total security and over rides the push switch.
Power is through the fused ignition supply.
A specific embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows the valve, switches and power supply in an example position.
DESCRIPrION Referring to the drawing, private cars have the fuel tank placed toward the rear of the vehicle, light commercials and heavy goods vehicles to the side or underneath, in all cases a fuel pump is used to either draw or push fuel from the tank and deliver it to the engine.
An electro magnetic fuel shut off valve, operating as closed when without electric power, is fitted in, and to the fuel supply pipework, when one or both switches are open power to the electro magnetic or solenoid valve is interrupted causing the valve to close and therefore cutting off the fuel supply to the engine, the engine will stop and cannot be restarted by a would be thief.
The valve and electronic circuitry are controlled by two switches, one is a push button energising switch and the other a key operated barrel switch both n a secret position known only to the owner.
The device would not interfere with any type of knoll vehicle alarm system, it can be installed independently of, or as an addition to any existing system
The system also incorporates an electric relay and wiring harness which is powered from either the original fuel pump supply or the coil positive supply.
The original pump supply or coil positive supply is interrupted and diverted to the correct relay power supply connection, a cable is taken from the relay to either the fuel pump or coil. A cable is taken from the relay to the security switch then to the energising button and returns to the relay.A further cable is taken to the Twoc Stop valve. Further cables can be taken to any other comporient which is to be immobilised. The final cable is attached to a good earth.
Twoc Stop, coil, fuel pump or starter cables are fitted with diodes to prohibit "power back feeding" in the event of any immobilised section being hot wired by a thief.
Another unique feature of this system is in the automatic arming of the system every time the ignition is switched off. The vehicle can only be restarted by pressing and holding down the hidden energising button when the engine is being cranked.
The hidden key operated switch serves to completely close down the system, rendering even the energising button inactive.
Another unique feature is in the fail safe design allowing the vehicle to continue running if power to the system is lost when being legally driven.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
ARMING THE SYSTEM
With the Ignition OFF turn the security switch ANTI CLOCKWISE to the stop
STARTING THE ENGINE
With the Ignition OFF turn the security switch CLOCKWISE to the stop
Press the energising button and hold down, at the same time start the engine, when the engine is running release the energising button.
Twoc Stop automatically enters a first stage protection whenever the ignition is switched off, it is impossible to start the engine without pressing and holding down the energising button, release the button when the engine is running.
LED WARNING UGHT The LED warning light supplied with the ki: is optional.
If the LED is to be fitted, it should be installed in a conspicuous position.
Connect the Red wire to a permanent power supply (not through the ignition) and connect the Yellow tag wire to the corresponding
Yellow tag wire of the security switch.
When the system is armed, the LED will flash.
FITTING THE COMPONENTS
Install the Twoc Stop valve using the bracket and fixings supplied, the nut on top of the solenoid can be used if a single top hole fixing is desired.
Cut the existing fuel line and re route through the valve using the hose and clips supplied, ensuring observance of the fuel flow direction arrow. Take extreme care at every pipe connection.
Drill a suitable hole for the key operated switch, ensure sufficient space is available to house the switch body, remember the switch is secured from behind with a nut. Wires attached to the back of the switch should also have sufficient space to prevent shorting and run behind steel panels to prevent them being pulled out by a thief.
For security purpose all wires in the harness are of a single colour, the colour code tag attached to the end of the wire should be removed as each wire is connected. The fitting instructions should be destroyed after installation and test.

Other components can be fitted in similar fashion.
Terminal 87 of the relay is connected by a short cable to terminal 85
A cable containing a diode fitted close to the relay is taken from terminal S to the Twoc Stop valve positive
A good earth is provided for the Twoc Stop valve
A cable is taken from terminal 85 to the return side of the energisi-.g button
A cable is taken from terminal 30 of the relay to the security switch
A cable is taken from the security switch to the energising button
A cable is taken from terminal 86 to a good earth
A LED warning light is connected to a permanent positive and the return cable is connected to terminal 30
Claims (1)
- CLAIMS A vehicle anti theft system which incorporates an electric relay which is wired into the system in such a manner as to, in a first stage, automaticallv immobilise either one or all of the components which operate the fuel pump, coil, starter, fuel injection system and an electro magnetic, or solenoid fuel shut off valve whenever the ignition is switched off.The second stage is the complete shutdown of all the above components, including rendering the energising button inoperative by usi@@ a key operared switch. The system also incorporates diodes fitted to prevent be backfeeding cr Lower to one or more immobilised areas by a thief "hot wiring" The valve can also be fitted with a time delay mechαnism to @@@ther frustate a would be thief. When the vehicle is being driven legally the system allows all components to continue operating if power is lost: on stopping and switching off the ignition the system will automatically rearm itself. The result of this system is to prevent fuel being delivered to the engine, and inunobllising essential components of the vehicle, rendering it useless to a would be Thief.
