Abstract

1,028,755. Vehicle anti-theft device. A. NEIMAN. March 11, 1964 [Oct. 14, 1963], No. 10270/64. Heading B7J. [Also in Divisions E2, F1 and H2] An anti-theft lock device for a vehicle has a casing 1 containing a switch 7, and a lock cylinder 2 and means, e.g. a bolt 4, controlled by the lock cylinder, for locking the steering, the gearbox or the brake lever of the vehicle, the switch controlling current to the starter solenoid and ignition circuit and including a rotor 8 rotatable by a key via the lock cylinder into a " stop " position, a " starting " position and a " running " position, said rotor having a cam 9 extending partly around its periphery, for effecting movement of a blocking member 13 from a normal position against the action of spring means during rotation of said rotor from the " stop " position to the " starting " position, to enable the blocking member to engage under a projection 10 of the rotor under the urge of said spring means when the rotor is in the " starting " position and so that said blocking member is moved by the spring means into the path of the projection on return movement of said rotor into the " running " position after release by the user thereby blocking the rotor against movement from the " running " position to the " starting " position. In the construction shown the bolt 4 is biased by a spring 5 to the locking position and is moved by a finger 2<SP>1</SP> which projects from the lock cylinder 2. The finger 2 also engages the rotor 8 on the switch and hence rotates the rotor when the lock cylinder is moved by means of its key 3. The spring means is a pair of springs 15, 16 and the normal position of the blocking member is such that its cam follower 14 is positioned adjacent one end of the cam. Rotation of the rotor 8 causes the under surface of the cam, which is a rib-like projection of the rotor, to engage the follower 14 and this moves the blocking member downwardly until continued rotation of the rotor 8 frees it from the other end of the cam when the blocking member rises until its follower 14 becomes engaged under the projection 10 of the rotor. This is the " starting " position. When the key is released a return spring rotates the rotor in the opposite direction for a short distance until the follower 14 is freed from the projection 10; the blocking member then rises under the bias of its springs and its follower becomes positioned in front of the projection 10 and so prevents clockwise rotation of the rotor back to the "starting" position; this is the "running" position, in which the ignition current is energized but not the starter solenoid. To return to the " starting " position it is necessary to turn the rotor further in said opposite direction and this rotation causes the follower 14 to -become engaged with the upper surface of the cam; continued rotation eventually frees the follower from the end of the cam and the blocking member then moves under the bias of its springs so that the follower returns to its normal position adjacent the upper end of the cam. The rotor is then in the " stop " position in which both the ignition circuit and the starter solenoid are de-energized and in which the bolt looks the steering.
