Abstract

1,048,230. Locking device for two-part couplings. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 31, 1965 [July 9, 1964], No. 28398/64. Heading H2E. As two parts 10 and 27 of an electrical connector are slidably mated, heads 24 of latches 26, pivoted on a sleeve 13 carried by the part 10, override steps 32 provided on the part 27 and thus lock the parts together (Fig. 4, not shown). During the last part of the movement of the sleeve 13, it moves forward relative to the body 11 of the part 10 and compresses a spring 16 which forces the parts into sealing engagement with each other. The. catch is released by moving an outer sleeve 17, backwards against the action of a spring 18 so that an abutment 21 forces down the tail 25 of the latch, and thus lifts the head. The expansion of the spring 16 assists in the initial movement of the part 27 away from the parts 13 and 17 of the connector 10. Correct mating of the two parts is ensured by grooves 31 carried by the part 10 engaging appropriate recesses in the part 27.
