Abstract

1,042,861. Bead cores for pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 25, 1963 [July 18, 1962], No. 27523/62. Heading B7C. A bead core 5 for a pneumatic tyre comprises a plurality of overlying spirally wound turns of high tensile steel strip, the cross-sectional profile of the strip being such that one turn nests within the next, whereby substantially no relative axial movement is possible between turns of the core. The profile of the strip is curved such that the radially inner surface of each turn is convex. In another embodiment (Fig. 3) the profile of the strip is curved such that the radially inner surface of each turn is concave. The bead core then further comprises a steel packing ring 10 having convex radially inner and outer surfaces which rests within the radially innermost turn of the strip. The turns of strip steel and the packing ring 10 may be coated with rubber or an epoxy resin.
