Abstract

1,041,388. Ladle cranes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. Jan. 14, 1964 [Jan. 14, 1963,] No. 1577/63. Heading F4B. Hook-shifting mechanism for a ladle crane having a horizontal beam 10 formed with two arcuate slots 13 carrying pivotally mounted ladle engaging hooks 15, comprises two levers 17, 18 having hooks 35, 36 engageable by a hook 12 of an auxiliary crab and mounted on shafts 19, 20 carrying cranks 23, 24; the crank 23 being connected by cables 25, 26 to the pivots 14 which are also connected by cables 29, 30 to the crank 24. The upward movement of levers 17 or 18, by the crab hook 12, causes the pivots to move towards or away from one another, respectively. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the mechanism comprises two ropes each connected to both hook pivots and lying one each side of the beam. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the mechanism comprises two pairs of levers, each pair connected to a pivot of a hook, and two ropes connecting both pairs of levers for engagement with the hook of the auxiliary crab.
