Abstract

1,038,967. Hot-water boilers. J. McNEIL. June 5, 1963 [June 6, 1962], No. 21796/62. Addition to 874,310. Heading F4A. The water-tube boiler described in the parent Specification is modified in that both end portions of at least some of the tubes are of smaller diameter than the middle portions; the tubes being pitched so that whilst the middle portions are close together, the end portions, which may be coaxial with or offset with respect to the middle portions, are spaced apart sufficiently to allow them to be secured into the associated tube plates of the boiler and are only of sufficient length to allow the securing process to be carried out. In Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), tubes 4 above the combustion chamber are arranged close together and have short end portions 5 of reduced diameter which are fitted into tube plates 3, 6. Combustion gases can flow upwardly between the tubes 4 and come into contact with nested U-tubes 1 which again are arranged close together but have short reduced diameter end portions 2 which are fitted into the tube plate 3.
