Abstract

1,034,593. Continuous casting. LEYBOLDHOCHVAKUUM-ANLAGEN G.m.b.H. Jan. 7, 1964 [Jan. 15, 1963], No. 675/64. Heading B3F. Apparatus for continuous casting of metals under a vacuum comprises a vacuum vessel 1 (Fig. 1, not shown), with a downward extending jacket 19, which encloses the ingate 3 and the upper two-thirds of the mould 30. Molten metal is supplied to the mould ingate 3 from a a pouring basin 2 through inlet 32 in the vacuum vessel 1. The flow of metal is controlled by the plug 4 in the pouring basin 2. Means are provided for evacuating the vessel 1 and for cooling the lower portion of the mould as at 9. In another embodiment a distributer gate is located between the pouring basin 2 and the vessel 1 which facilitates more than one mould to be supplied with molten metal and also incorporates means for introducing oxidizible additive into the molten metal as it enters the ingate 3 of the mould.
