Abstract

1,045,423. Continuous casting processes. ALUMINIUM LABORATORIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 4771/65. Heading B3F. A direct chill continuous casting process is characterized in that the coolant flow directed against the ingot below the mould is pulsed i.e. by cyclically switching the coolant flow on and off from impingement on the ingot. When starting the process molten metal is poured into the mould whose open bottom is closed by an hydraulically-actuated ram or stool, until a float closes the melt inlet tube, the stool being then lowered.
