Abstract

1,032,829. Motor vehicle tailgate fastener. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. Aug. 15, 1963 [Aug. 15, 1962], No. 31263/62. Heading E2A. In a motor vehicle tailgate fastening a latch 6 is permitted to operate by a release member 15 the movement of which-member 15 is obstructed when a window 1 is not lowered to a position safe for opening the tailgate 2 but when latch 6 is in the release position the member 15 is moved to a position in the path of the window 1, shown dotted in Fig. 4, to obstruct the raising of the window 1 until the latch 6 is again fastened. The member 15 is of cranked form and is connected at 14 to a pawl 9, pivoted at 12 and when the window 1 is up the end of the pawl 9 lies in the path of a pawl 10, connected to the latch 6, to prevent rotation of the latch 6 to the release position with a pin 7. When the window 1 is lowered the member 15 pivots the pawl 9 to permit a spring 8 to facilitate rotation of the latch 6 to the release position and to move the end of the pawl 10 into a blocking position behind pawl 9 so that the member 15 cannot be moved and hence the window 1 raised until the tailgate 1 is shut and the latch 6 rotated to the fastening position by pin 7.
