Abstract

1,030,842. Electrical transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3649/62. Heading H1T. An electric transformer comprising at least two windings 13, 14 which surround a portion of a laminated magnetic core having at least two limbs 12 which are disposed in a tank 18 is provided with flux divertors by which eddy current losses are reduced. The divertors may comprise one or more laminated sheets 21 and/or laminated end members 22, 23 having their laminations at right-angles to the plane of the limb laminations, or may comprise annular members 25 of wound strip arranged with co-operating laminated blocks 26, 27 at the upper and lower limb ends of the winding (Figs. 4-6, not shown). The sheets 21 may be split into upper and lower portions spaced apart vertically or may be arranged (29) close to the tank walls possibly with co-operating end members 22, 23, 28 approaching the limb ends (Figs. 7-9, not shown). The transformer may be a three-phase transformer in which case the sheets 21 may be of unitary construction, being interconnected by horizontal parts adjacent the yokes 11 of the core. Straight and/or curved end plates 22, 23, 24 (Fig. 2) may be provided at each end of the windings.
