Abstract

1,025,175. Metal roofs. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd. May 27, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 20218/62. Heading E1V. A metal sheet 1 for use with a metal roofing sheet 9 comprises a sheet portion having along one edge an upstanding wall 2 engageable with the sheet 9 to support immovably the latter 2 spaced from the sheet portion, by having a formation thereon comprising a wall 5 inclined to the plane of the sheet portion at less than 90 degrees and a hook 6 for receiving the free edge of a wall 12 of the roofing sheet 9 having an inclination to the general plane thereof which is substantially the same as the said inclination of the wall 5. The sheet portion has a second wall 3 along the edge opposed to the one edge. The wall 3 is turned over inward to give a flange 4 substantially parallel to the sheet portion and spaced from it so as to be no higher than the wall 2. The sheet 9 has one or more reinforcing channels 9a. A body of heat and/or sound insulating material 8 is supported on the metal sheet/between the walls 2, 3. The flange 4 may extend over the material 8 or extend into it to retain it in position. The roofing sheet 9 has two channels 10, 11, opening in opposite directions, each defined by an outer wall 12, 16 respectively with a free edge and an inner wall 13, 15 inward from its associated outer wall, and dimensioned so that the inner and outer walls 12, 13 of one channel can extend into the channel 11 of another sheet 9, the wall 13 of one channel having a turned-over free edge engaged in a hook portion 17. The roof so formed is supported on purlins 18 and secured thereto by clips 19 each engaging over a hook 6.
