Abstract

1,018,815. Protective systems. F. KRIWAN. Nov. 21, 1962 [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 44004/62. Heading H2K. An earth leakage protective system comprises a storage capacitor 3 connected between starconnected rectifiers 1 and an artificial neutral point 4 provided by a group of impedances 18, 19, means being provided for using the leakage voltage appearing between a protected apparatus and the neutral point to release the energy stored by the capacitor 3 to operate a protective device. In the arrangement shown, the capacitor 3 is normally charged by current through the rectifiers 1 and a resistor 2 to a potential determined by a glow discharge tube 5. In the event of an earth fault, the voltage appearing between a terminal K connected to the protected apparatus and the neutral point 4 acts through a multiplying circuit 11, 12 to apply an ignition potential to the auxiliary electrode 13 of a glow discharge relay tube 6. The tube 6 ignites and the capacitor 3 discharges through the tube 6 and a trip coil 7 to release the latch 16 of a circuit. breaker 28. A transistor and a Zener diode may be used instead of the tubes 6, 5.
