Abstract

1,018,020. Pneumatic separators. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. Dec. 17, 1964 [March 5, 1964], No. 51415/64. Heading B2H. Material to be classified is introduced into the housing 1 of an air classifier through a central overhead inlet 2 and is dispersed by means 4 towards the walls of the housing and falls into a classifying zone 9 surrounding the mouth of a fines-collecting funnel 7 connected to a section source, classifying air being fed tangentially into the housing below the zone 9 through tangential inlets 13 and the coarse fraction being collected in a funnel formed by an extension of the housing and surrounding the funnel 7. The means 4 may be a revolving disperser, as shown, or a distributing cone. The classifying zone 9 lies between the rim of the funnel 7 and a double frusto-conical core member 6 supported by stays 5. The cross-section of the air flow in the zone 9 may be varied by adjustment of the funnel 7 in the direction of the arrow 10 by means of a handwheel 11. Part of the classifying air may be introduced with the feed material.
