Abstract
1,016,209. Straightening tubes. M. VON BUSHE, and T ALTENBRACHT., [trading as KIESERLING & ALBRECHT]. Sept. 3, 1964 [Oct. 24, 1963], No. 36177/64. Heading B3M. Associated with a straightening machine a coil through which passes the metal which is to be or has been straightened, forms the inductance of a resonance circuit the resultant pulses controlling the feed and discharge means. Tubes 4 are moved from a grid 5 to rollers 6. A driving roller 6a is then lowered and the tube 4a fed through a coil 8 to roller straightening means 1. As the leading end of the tube 4a passes through the coil 8 the voltage drop at a series resistance 9 is varied to cause an amplifier 10, e.g. a thyratron, to emit a control pulse to lift the feed roller 6a from the tube 4a as the tube 4a is engaged by the first straighten ing rollers 1a. The control pulse also acts, through a time relay, to cause the next tube to be moved to the rollers 6. When the leading end of the tube 4a enters a second coil 8a a control pulse, through a slow-acting relay, causes a driving roller 11 to be lowered on to the tube 4a to brake it as it passes on to the rollers 12. As the trailing end of the tube 4a leaves the coil 8a a control pulse lifts the roller 11 and causes ejectors to move the tube from the rollers 12 to a grid 13. The coils 8, 8a may operate to reverse the drive of the straightening rollers and the rollers 6a, 11 so that the material to be straightened passes several times back and forward through the straightening rollers before being deposited on the grid 13.
